Fliegenfischen im Nationalpark Hohe Tauern

Fly fishing, experience nature and relax:
in a very special area with pure wild fish stock, hidden in the middle of the mountains of the national park "Hohe Tauern".

Already since 1871 the waters around Mallnitz are in the possession of the family Sterz, and since many generations one is conscious here of the responsibility to manage the waters close to nature.Since only a limited number of fishing licenses are issued, the waters are also not overfished, a pre-registration or reservation is therefore always necessary.

The Seebach with the Stappitzer See, as well as the Mallnitz .- and Tauernbach together 14 km long belong to the district. The creeks are typical mountain streams, fast rushing alternate with flow-calming gullies and deeper channels at the impact banks. In the upper part of the Seebach you will find a calm, leisurely flowing water with deep turquoise pools.

Since only wild fish are found in these waters, restraint is generally expected when taking fish. One of the also numerous brook trout may be taken per day, but in the case of the local brown trout and Arctic char, a nice photo must suffice as a souvenir.

Even if the fishing here is attractive, you should take the time for the surroundings, because in addition to the impressive mountain panorama can be found in the nature of the National Park Hohe Tauern also many charming details such as rare butterflies and dragonflies, mountain flowers and mosses or lichens worth a closer look.

Fishing season from 25 May to 15 September

Species: brown trout, brook trout and Arctic char.
Bait: only artificial flies, nymphs or streamers, all with hooks.
Removal: 1 brook trout per day. The rest is gently put back ( no removal of brown trout and Arctic char )
